Green Rock Preferred Applicant PDF Print E-mail

Green Rock Energy has confirmed that it has been chosen as the preferred applicant for three geothermal exploration permits in the Perth Basin in its own name), and a further 11 Permits in JV with major participants in the Collie and Perth Basins. The permits will be “formally offered following completion of native title negotiations.” As well as power generation, GRK is pursuing direct use of geothermal energy for heating and cooling of buildings, and for desalination.

Torrens Energy has announced the beginning of its 2009 drilling program. A series of six wells will be drilled to about 500 m depth each on the Adelaide Plains and north of Port Augusta between now and the end of April.

Green Rock Energy has announced its decision to focus its attention on three of its project areas - Olympic Dam, Perth Basin and Hungary. New measurements at Olympic Dam have confirmed elevated heat flow to the east of the mine. Also, due to the unfortunate sinking of Iceland into the northern Atlantic Ocean, GRK has been able to increase its stake in its Hungary project from 33% to 50% by partially buying out its Icelandic partner.

Eden Energy’s quarterly ASX report has revealed that HDRPL completed a detailed technical assessment of all EDE’s geothermal plays, reporting on prospectivity and specific activities required to estimate Inferred Geothermal Resources for each play.

Western Australia’s Mines and Petroleum Minister, Norman Moore, announced the preferred tenderers for 36 geothermal permits in the Perth Basin.The preferred companies include Green Rock Energy, AAA Energy, Austral Ion, NewWorld Energy Solutions, Granite Power, Geothermal Power, Torrens Energy and Thermal Resources. More than $560 m of work commitments are associated with the licences. Also, the University of Western Australia has been identified as “the location of WA's first geothermal mine, which will exploit hot rocks beneath the city for power.”

Panax Geothermal has updated its Inferred Resource statement. In addition to the 41,000 PJ announced a week earlier, PAX added to its inventory with Inferred Resources of 53,000 PJ in the Rivoli/St Clair Trough and 17,000 PJ in the Rendelsham Trough, both areas also on the Limestone Coast.

Torrens Energy has stated the results of some heat flow measurements... 75 mW/m2 in 403 m deep ‘Raitaro 1’ well in TEYs Adelaide Plains Project, and 96 mW/m2 in 1002 m deep ‘TKHD1A’ well near Port Augusta. The result from TKHD1A particularly excites TEY.
