In Canberra on Wednesday June 20th, Prof Jefferson Tester of MIT was giving evidence to the House of Representatives Industry and Resources Committee about opportunities for Australia to demonstrate geothermal technology and expertise to the world.

Jeff’s Canberra gig was part of a whistlestop tour of the country, which included media, speaking and consulting engagements in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

There has been an update from Geothermal Resources Ltd on drilling progress at its Frome play. Frome 12 was at 550 m and drilling ahead to a planned depth of 1800 m, expected to be completed in about five weeks. The temperature conditions in Frome 12 will inform GHT whether to proceed to a full-scale production hole into predicted ‘Hot Rock’ granite at 3–4 km.
