The Warrnambool Standard (again in Victoria!) carried two stories about geothermal energy on Tuesday June 26th.

The first said that a preferred site has been identified for a geothermal spa resort on disused railway land in Port Fairy. This site was selected from nine possible sites identified earlier this year. The decision, however, drew criticism (in the second story) from an existing day-spa owner in Port Fairy, who is worried the new development could harm her business.

However, according to Charles Davidson, who runs the Peninsula Hot Springs geothermal spa at Rye, this has not been the case on the Mornington Peninsula. He says business has actually improved at nearby day-spas since his business opened.

Newsflash

More heat flow results for eastern Tasmania have been released by KUTh Energy Ltd. The new results confirm the trend of heat flow greater than 90 mW/m2 in KEN’s exploration licences, which now hold a prospective ‘Hot Rock’ geothermal zone at least 4,200 km2 in area.
