An article by Matthew Warren in The Australian newspaper on Wednesday 8th forecast major changes in national renewable energy representation groups. According to Matthew, “[the] major strategic shake-out...will largely separate gas and wind power interests from proponents of solar and geothermal energy.”

A group is predicted to emerge that will solicit greater government investment specifically in geothermal and large-scale solar. The Renewable Energy Generators Association’s Susan Jeanes is expected to play a major role in the new entity. The article also noted the existence of AGEG, “which is investigating whether to expand into a full-blown industry group that
may emerge if REGA wraps up at the end of the year.”

Newsflash

The eligibility criteria for applications for drilling subsidies under the Geothermal Drilling Program (GDP) has been altered following a request from AGEA. Formerly, an eligible well had to be spudded by 30 June 2009. Now, ‘drilling activities’ must commence by 30 June 2009. Such activities can include site preparation and well design, with a rig secured. For those companies unsuccessful in Round 1 (or those companies that didn’t apply), Round 2 applications will officially open in late April 2009, due on 19 June 2009. Start planning now!
