The Sydney Apec Leaders’ Declaration On Climate Change, Energy Security And Clean Development, released on Sunday 9th, didn’t hold much of interest for the geothermal sector, except an agreement to “establish the Asia-Pacific Network for Energy Technology (APNet) to strengthen collaboration on energy research in the region.

Participation in the Network will be open to all research bodies in the APEC region. The aim of the Network will be to facilitate research linkages and co-operation in areas such as clean fossil energy and renewable energy. APNet will be inaugurated at a major energy research conference in 2008.” Could be one to watch out for next year.

Newsflash

The Australian newspaper has sung the praises of geothermal energy in a number of articles. One article tipped that geothermal will be the first green energy solution ‘past the post’ and noted the importance of policies such as carbon trading and renewable energy targets. The financial pages plugged the shares of the ten ASX listed geothermal companies and quoted a supportive Federal Energy Minister.
