HRL were overshadowed somewhat on Wednesday 14th by the Federal Opposition’s announcement that, if elected on Nov 24, it will commit a whopping $500m “to help develop and commercialise renewable energy.” $50m of this is earmarked to support geothermal energy drilling, as announced on 30 May (see HDRPL Newsletter #08.) |

| The Melbourne University Geothermal Group has scored an $835,000 win in the shape of an Australian Research Council ‘Discovery’ grant for a project: "The thermal structure and evolution of the Australian continent". The grant to Dr Sandra McLaren and Prof Mike Sandiford is the biggest to date from the ARC for geothermal studies and confirms the appetite of Federal Government agencies for advancing fundamental geothermal research. |
