Green Rock Energy announced on Friday 16th that it has been granted five new geothermal exploration licences, totalling 1938 km2, around the Upper Spencer Gulf in South Australia.

GRK intends to assess the suitability of the geology in the new GELs to provide geothermal energy for a reverse osmosis desalination plant.

World's first granite-hosted EGS power plant

Soultz power plant was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on Friday the 13th of June 08. The world's first granite-hosted EGS power plant to feed power into a national grid. The pilot plant of Soultz-sous-Forets (Alsace, France) is the first EGS power plant based on a fractured reservior at 4-4.5 km. A First ORC module of  1.5 MWe is injecting electricity into the power grid.
