Australia was well represented at the NZ Geothermal Workshop in Auckland between Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th, with delegations from Geodynamics, Petratherm, Greenearth Energy, Torrens Energy and Monash University. We almost outnumbered the kiwis!

As well as hosting a range of interesting talks, the meeting also voted into existence the Western Pacific Regional Branch of the International Geothermal Association, open to membership from across the Asia-Pacific region (even Australia!)

Geelong has potential to be a world leader in geothermal energy production

In the Geeolong Advertiser, on the 3rd of June, a story read that Geelong could top an international list of cities on geothermal goldmines. Greenearth Energy has announced an independent consultant's report ranked the greater Melbourne area as the number one in the world for hot energy below its surface. Geothermal energy consultancy Hot Dry Rocks conducted the report, taking data from a 100km radius of 40 international cities that were part of the C40 climate change leadership group.
