Queensland Department of Minerals and Energy hosted a workshop in Brisbane to discuss the development of integrated geothermal exploration and production tenure legislation. 

A broad range of stakeholders were involved, including all those companies currently pursuing exploration rights in QLD.

There was a flurry of stories in the media following the release of Prof Ross Garnaut’s report on the economic impact of carbon dioxide emission controls. The report recommended that Australia aim for emissions cuts of between 5 and 25% by 2020, and Garnaut explicitly said that geothermal energy could play a key role in achieving those cuts.
