On Monday 7th, ASX listed nickel miner Allegiance Mining became the newest geothermal player on the block through its wholly owned subsidiary Geothermal Energy Tasmania Pty Ltd. 

GET has applied for two geothermal exploration licences in NW Tasmania, totalling about 6,500 km˛, to “[assess] all available relevant data on the area, and [undertake] preliminary studies and surveys to validate the concept and demonstrate the potential for hot rock geothermal power generation.”

AGEG, AGEA and NZGA (New Zealand Geothermal Association) have joined hands to submit an Expression of Interest to the International Geothermal Association to co-host the World Geothermal Congress in NZ and Australia in 2015. The 5-yearly WGC is the premier geothermal event in the world. The proposal is to hold short courses and field trips in the heart of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, the Conference in an east coast Australian city, then other field trips to Australia’s unique geothermal sites.
